Thorness Bay Beach

Thorness Lane, Cowes, PO31 8NQ

Cowes, England, GB, PO31 8NQ

This trip is part of a weekend event, if you would like to attend both Saturday and Sunday field trips on the Isle of Wight please sign up for both events separately.

If you are looking for accommodation on the Isle of Wight we recommend staying at Thorness Bay Holiday Park where many other members will be staying. There will be a palaeontological quiz on the Saturday evening in the Club House, with prizes!

Fossil remains of crocodiles and turtles can be found along the foreshore throughout the bay, washed from the Hamstead Beds at either end of the bay and from the area between Hamstead Bay and Yarmouth. These can be easily picked up along the foreshore, although they are much less common than from the main Hamstead Bay to Yarmouth sequence.

* Suitable for children 6+ (All children must be accompanied by an adult).
* HARD HATS (No Cycle Helmets), and HIGH VISIBILITY VESTS or jacket essential. We do not provide these, but you can add these when ordering if needed.
